Vampires

Ancient powers of true light and darkness have awoken. Long-secret recipes for tapping into the power of darkness have been uncovered, allowing the people of Valeria to embrace it’s power, should they be so tempted. Those who drink from Occult Chalice will be granted the powerful curse of Vampirism.

Anyone can become a vampire, but do you want to? During daytime vampires cower from sunlight. During the night the humans reach for their wooden stakes as the vampires roam the lands with inhuman powers. Driven by their endless bloodlust, they devour all living in their way.

Vampires in Vox Populi

Vampires have several passive advantages, starting with an increased jump height. They receive a X2 jump boost, without the need for making and drinking potions or casting spells. Vampires will not drown underwater, and will also not lose hunger except for when regenerating health.

Vampires also have access to several active abilities, such as Darkvision. Using /c darkvision will allow a Vampire to see in the dark. The night vision is free and does not consume food level. It works just like the potion effect but you don’t emit particles. This way others can’t see you are using nightvision.

Vampires pay a small price in being vulnerable to damage from wooden objects. These include wooden tools, wooden signs, and some torches. Vampires will take more damage than the average player from physical attacks made against them with wooden implements.

The Sun is the main vampire dis-advantage. When vampires are exposed to sunlight their body temperature will increase, fast. Vampires simply can’t stand sunlight.

Vampires experience four stages of negative effects from being exposed to direct sunlight. These stages compound, and stack one atop the other as exposure continues.

  • Stage 1: Nausea
  • Stage 2: Slow
  • Stage 3: Blindness
  • Stage 4: Burn

Vampires will progress through these stages incredibly quickly as they step into a space exposed to direct sunlight.

Vampires will not burn at night, when it is raining, or when under at least one semi-transparent (such as leaves or stained glass) to opaque block . Armor does not block exposure to sunlight.

As a Vampire, your food bar now acts as your blood bar. It will not deteriorate over time, only when regenerating lost health.

There are several resources for gaining blood that Vampires have at their disposal. The easiest is by punching creatures. You can see how much blood you’ll get per creature in the chart below.

You can build up a supply of blood to take with you on adventures by punching creatures until your blood bar is full, and then holding a bottle and using /c transfusion. This will take the bottle and turn it into a Bottle of Blood you can drink later. Non-Vampires can also make and sell Bottles of Blood by using a Transfusion Kit bought from Shady Stan in the sewers under Valeria Beach.

Vampires have multiple active abilities that they can trigger or toggle via /c <ability>. These include Dark Veil, Bat Form, Mistwalk,  and Darksight. Information about each ability can be viewed in-game via /c info <ability>.

They also receive the unique emote: /mouth

========

Dark Veil – The Vampire covers the area in a dark cloud, damaging players and stunning monsters within.
Bat Form – The Vampire turns into a bat and gains flight for a very short duration. This costs the Vampire 5 points of health.
Mistwalk – The Vampire becomes a cloud of mist for a few seconds that flies forward. Casting this while crouching will make the Vampire fly backwards.
Darksight – Allows the Vampire to see in the dark. Functions like an infinite Nightvision potion, without the particles.

The Altar of Light

The only known cure for Vampirism is the Light of the Goddess. At the Chapel at /warp chapel, there is a diamond block that is capable of reflecting Her light into a Vampire’s soul, purifying it of all dark powers. Right clicking this block will remove the Vampirism curse from the player.
